What is Colorado Construction Career Days?

The Construction, Engineering and Architectural industry collaborated to create an event to introduce careers within the Construction industry for high school students and educators in Colorado where they could explore those careers through hands-on activities and meet the professionals in those careers.

Where is Colorado Construction Career Days held?
a.
Each October the event is held at the Adams County Fairgrounds in Henderson, Colorado. Students are involved in activities both indoors and outdoors. See the directions on the About page.

Who can go to Colorado Construction Career Days?
a.
Students from public, charter and private and home schooled students throughout the state, in grades 10, 11 and 12, are invited to attend. Teachers register their students after the students returns a signed Student Registration Form. Non-traditional students and are also invited but must attend through a sponsoring program such as a State Workforce Center. The sponsoring program must register the student and accompany the student/students to the event. All registration forms must be appropriately completed and brought to the event.

What Kind of Activities will Students Explore?

The students experience: driving heavy equipment, use tools, install sheet rock, wire an electric box, build a masonry wall, pipefitting, scheduling, go up a scissor lift, build a virtual bridge, architecture, design landscaping, BIM, operate a Front Loader, welding, concrete forming, safety practices and much more.

What are the hours of Colorado Construction Career Days?
a.
Registered students are required to arrive with their teacher and sponsoring agent, usually on a school bus, between 8:30 a.m. and 9:00 am. And they leave the Indoor Arena at approximately 1:00 pm, going directly to their buses/vehicles waiting for them outside of the Arena. By 1:15 all of the buses are on their way back to their school/program.

How Do We Get Lunch?
a.
Lunch, beverages, and water are provided. Lunch is served around 10:30.

What Should I Wear?
a.
Upon arrival, the student receives a hard hat, safety glasses and ear plugs. All students and educators/attendees must wear to the event closed toe shoes (no sandals/flip flops), long pants, and a warm shirt or jacket if cold weather is expected.

How Do I Register my Students?
a.
Go to registration page and download the Student Registration Form. Students must take the Registration Form home to be signed by their parents and returned to the teacher. The teacher creates an account on this web site, logs in and registers students. The teacher must bring the signed student registration forms to the event where they will be collected.
