:: Volunteer for Colorado Construction Career Days

Construction Career Days Wants You!

We are looking for volunteers! We need your help to make Colorado Construction Career Days a success. Help set up, take down or offer an activity for students. Get your company involved in developing our future construction industry workforce. We must continue to prepare a strong, well-trained workforce to prevent future shortages of skilled workers.

How to Volunteer

Volunteers do the planning, serve as group leaders, organize and conduct activities, set up and dismantle the event, handle registration, safety, and more. The opportunities to have fun are many and varied! Over 500 volunteers from over 200 companies participated in 2008. Volunteers are needed again on October 5 to help set up the event, and October 6 & 7 when the students attend.

Register to Volunteer Online. Or Download the volunteer registration form.

To provide a hands-on activity, contact Lee Blum at 303-388-2422 or lee@agccolorado.org

What Are Group Leaders?

Love to Build? Volunteer to Share Your Enthusiasm as a Group Leader!
- Spend a morning (or two) with a group of 10 high school students, sharing informally about your experiences in construction and how you started in the industry and what it has to offer. You will guide your student group through a schedule of “hands on” Activities and Equipment that keeps them busy and involved. You will be with the students from 8:30 a.m. till 1:00 p.m. when they board their buses to return to their schools.

Recommended job qualifications include:
  • Excited to be involved with Colorado Construction Career Days
  • Construction Background: ability to answer simple questions to help further spark student interest in the industry
  • Positive attitude about construction careers
  • Energetic
  • Able to organize students and keep to a schedule

  • Encourage your company to send some of their younger, hourly employees – a good mix of ages and experience would be great!

Here is what some of last year’s group leaders said about their experience:
“Great event, well organized, looking forward to next year.”

“Smooth as silk and a great group of kids. Lots of learning.”

“It was a kick to spend the morning with the high school kids and talk about construction.”

Where and When Do Volunteers Report?

This fall, October 6 & 7, 2009, Construction Career Days will be held at the Adams County Fairgrounds. Volunteers can help set up on October 5, from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. and help on October 6 & 7 from 6:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Register online or download the volunteer registration form.

Be a Champion for Colorado Construction Career Days

We are encouraging the construction industry to support this event which gives students the opportunity to explore careers in construction. Please sponsor at any level that works for you. We also need volunteers and sponsors to provide highway equipment, hands-on building activities, and general volunteer work. This is a great way to promote your company. Display your name on equipment and display your banner at the activities. See more information.
